A cold camping trip...
Ft Tejon, near Lebec, California: Daytime temp about 34ºF, night-time temp about 29ºF (mild, as most winters go).

The souvenir was this fever/cough thing that I promptly shared with my wife. She appreciates me.

I'm one of his co-workers. Apparently he was interested in participating in the Ventura County Corporate Games' running events and went out at lunch for a run on the 19th. During his run he suffered either a heart attack or an aneurysm, we're not sure, but it is was very quick.

I didn't know him well, he only started working here about a year ago, but the times I talked to him he seemed like a very courteous, well spoken, professional, and all around straight shooter kind of a guy.

We are all in shock here and trying to get some closure. I have been searching the internet and the local papers, but have been unable to find any information regarding his passing.

Please Pray for his family.

God's speed Darryl.

Thanks Anonymous for posting this on Darryl's site last week. It has been a flurry of commotion for his family ever since Tuesday as you can imagine and we are just now starting to attend to his journal.

The notice should show up in tomorrow's paper with details about the viewing and funeral services. Those who'd like to give something to honor his life could donate to support Raise the Sails for the tall ships Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain by going to one of these links:

Thank you so much for your thoughts and kind attentions,

I only knew Darryl Pearce in the world of the blogs. He was a wonderful spirit, a kind heart and a courageous speaker of truth to power. We are all poorer for his passing, but we well remember him and treasure that memory.

My condolences to his family and friends.

I'm so sorry to hear this terrible news. I knew Darryl only from the Eschaton comments thread, but he was a joy to have around. He'll be missed.

I wish strength to Darryl's family.
It leaves a hole in the heart.
He was a big guy, and it must have left a bigger hole.

It is painful, hurts.
Grief is a necessary healing.

Love,
B

Darryl was one of the first regular commenters at Shakesville, and I always appreciated his comments and insight. He was such an intelligent and funny and wonderful guy.

I'm so, so sad to hear of his passing; I will miss him.
